Father of Thirteen

            WATERBURY- Charles Joseph “Charlie” Boulier, Jr., 87, husband of the late Marilyn (Lewis) Boulier, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT. Charles was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine, on January 2, 1931, son of the late Charles Sr. and Rose (Pelkey) Boulier, and was a graduate of Crosby High School in Waterbury, Class of 1949, where he met the love of his life, Marilyn. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Waterbury, a current communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury, and a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus Council.

            Charles worked for over 37 years as a milkman for various dairies in the greater Waterbury area. After “retiring” he went on to work 27 years for All-Star Transportation, first as a bus driver, then as a bus aide until the age of 85. Charles was a devout Catholic and attended Mass and Eucharistic adoration daily. He enjoyed traveling to religious sites around the world, walking with his friends at the Brass Mill Center, supporting his grandchildren at sports events and recitals, and spending time with his many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

            Besides his wife of 47 years, Charles was predeceased by his brother, Paul Winston Boulier, and two of his daughters, Michele Boulier and Sharyn Boulier. He is survived by eleven children, Vanessa Boulier and Jim Fisher of Winsted, Charles J. Boulier, III and his wife, Beth, of Wolcott, Denise Poniatoski and her husband, Bill, of Fairport, N.Y., Chris Boulier and his wife, Deb, of Waterbury, Pam Boulier of Thomaston, Pete Boulier and his wife, Liz, of Watertown, Valerie Ambrose and her husband, Tom, of Naugatuck, Wendy Farrell of Waterbury, with whom he resided for nine years, Greg Boulier of Waterbury, Jackie Tiul and her husband, Raul, of Litchfield, and David Boulier of Manchester.    

            Charles is also survived by 27 grandchildren, Charles J. Boulier, IV and his wife, Katherine, Kristle Rodriguez and her husband, Armando, Jessica Poniatoski, Caitlin Boulier, John Henry Farrell, Jason Boulier, Kara Poniatoski, Jennifer Farrell, Courtney Ambrose, Lindsay Knowlton and her husband, Chris, Chad Boulier, Joseph Farrell, Kyle Ambrose and his wife, Amy, Eric Stadalnik, who is also his Godson, and his wife, Shannon, Zac Boulier, Amanda Boulier, Paul Boulier, Hannah Boulier, Evryn Boulier, Ana Gabriela Tiul, Jaime Boulier, Mateo Tiul, Lily Boulier, Marilyn Tiul, Matt Boulier, Ailyn Tiul, and Cecilia Tiul, and seven great-grandchildren, Sadie, Christian, and Leo Rodriguez, Madeleine and Charles “Mac” Boulier, Winnie Ambrose, and Nicholas Knowlton.

            A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 9:30 a.m.at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

            Charles’ family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital, especially the doctors and nurses in Emergency Care, the Critical Care Unit, and the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit, for the exceptional care they provided to him.
