            WATERBURY- Donald E. McKennerney, 77, of Waterbury died Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Barbara (Zupkus) McKennerney.

            Don was born in Waterbury October 20, 1940 son of the late Francis M. and Catherine (Wendell) McKennerney. He was a lifelong resident of Waterbury spending his early years in the Waterville section of the city.

            He attended Leavenworth High School and then went on to work at Stop & Shop where he met Barbara, the love of his life. Don then went on to work at Bond Bread and Sunbeam Bakery. Together with his best friend, Tony Galletta they later went into business and started TonyMack Transport and then he later owned and operated CDB Truck Leasing and LDR Transportation where he was president of both businesses until his retirement.

            Don was an avid fisherman and was one of the founding members of the Waterbury Deep Sea Fishing Club where he held various positions in the club and ran at least one tournament every year up until 1994. He was a weather watcher having gone on multiple tornado chasing trips, played setback at both the Avigs Club and the Hill Street Social Club. Don also enjoyed spending time with his family in Rhode Island.

            Besides his wife Barbara of 57 years, he is survived by his daughter, Elaine Melchionne and her husband Philip of Prospect, 4 grandchildren, Catherine, Carmen and Cara Melchionne and Vincent McKennerney and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Francis McKennerney.

            Don is also survived by his brother, Wendell McKennerney and his wife Marjorie. He was predeceased by his brother, Gordon McKennerney and his sister, Mary Mancini.

            The McKennerney family would like to thank the entire staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Waterbury Hospital for the care that they provided.

            Funeral will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 9 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 12 Ardsley Road for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Old St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
