E. Ruth (Conlon) McGarty
WATERBURY- E. Ruth (Conlon) McGarty, 90. Of Waterbury died peacefully with dignity and grace on Monday, August 5, 2019 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Eugene “Len” McGarty.
Mrs. McGarty was born in Waterbury on March 21, 1929 daughter of the late Raymond and Pauline (Teller) Conlon and had been a lifelong resident of Waterbury. She graduated from St. Mary’s Grammar School and Waterbury Catholic High School.
Mrs. McGarty retired from CL&P in 1992 after 40 years of service as an Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Cl&P.
Ruth loved music and a good party and when she wasn’t entertaining with loved ones and friends, she did extensive traveling around the world with her beloved husband. Ruth was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Waterbury Elks Club, and the Evergreen Club of Waterbury.
Mrs. McGarty was a longtime communicant and parishioner of Our Lady of Loreto Parish.
Ruth is survived by her sister, Rita Kelley of MA., 2 great nephews, Christopher Martino of Waterbury who provided long term care for his Aunt for many years and Matthew Martino of Waterbury, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Eddie and Bob Conlon.
Ruth’s family would like to extend special thanks to her neighbors and longtime friends, George and Dyanne Telesco, her primary caregivers Sarah and Deborah, her loving neighbor Sheila and to all the other kind people who assisted in her long term care.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 12 Ardsley Road for a Mass at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
