Eleanor (Walsh) Dodds

          NEWINGTON – Eleanor (Walsh) Dodds, 87, of Newington, formerly of Waterbury, died Monday October 8, 2018 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness.  She was the widow of Thomas J. Dodds, a longtime Waterbury policeman.

          Eleanor was born in Waterbury, a premature Valentines gift from Anna (Mahoney) Walsh to her husband John, born near the beginning of the Great Depression. She was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and a retired employee of the Haydon Switch Company where she worked as a receptionist and a switchboard operator. Eleanor was a communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and recently St. Mary's Church of Newington.

          Eleanor was a devoted wife to Tom and they had a loving and inseparable existence together until Tom’s death in 2012.  Although having lived at Cedar Mountain Commons Assisted Living in Newington for the past few years she had been a lifelong Waterbury resident.

          Her family would like to recognize and show appreciation to the staff and residents of the Cedar Mountain Commons for their friendship and support.

          Eleanor is survived by her sister, Ann Mis and nieces and nephews, Louise, Francis and John Walsh, James and Carolyn Mis, and Kevin, Sharon and Brian Walsh.

          The funeral will be held Friday October 12, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street for a Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Old St. Joseph Cemetery.  Calling hour is Friday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
