Elizabeth "Betty" (Perrone) Furlong
Loving Mother, Grandmother and Sister
SOUTHINGTON - Elizabeth "Betty" (Perrone) Furlong, age 88, passed away peacefully at Southington Care Center on April 11, 2021 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late James K. Furlong who died in 2002.
Betty was born and raised in Waterbury, daughter of the late Joseph and Louise (Morelli) Perrone. She was a graduate of Crosby High School, class of 1950.
Betty and Jim married in 1954 in Waterbury. They moved to the East End where they resided for over 50 years and raised a family. Betty returned to the workforce when her children were older and worked for the Torrington Supply Company in Waterbury for 27 years until her retirement in 1995.
Betty and Jim enjoyed traveling, including their many trips to Ireland, and vacations on Cape Cod. After Jim passed, Betty continued her love of adventure with trips to many of her favorite Connecticut and Florida destinations and attractions with her sisters and family. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed baking, listening to music and spending time with many generations of family and close friends.
For the past 10 years, Betty made her home at Mulberry Gardens in Southington where she enjoyed a full and busy chapter in her life, serving on many resident committees, finding more adventures on a multitude of trips, and creating many genuine and lasting friendships with both residents and staff.
Family who will continue to cherish her memory include: her children Dennis (Cyndi) Furlong of Michigan; Karen (Bill) Del Vecchio of Norwalk; James (Jean) Furlong of Southington; Amy (John) Daugerdas of Waterbury; grandchildren Kevin (Julianne); Bryan; Joseph; Christopher; and Teresa; sister Annette (Pat) Musto; sisters-in-law Maureen (Ted) Spagnola and Kathleen Williams; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who were dear to her.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Marie Mastrofrancesco.
Betty’s family wishes to acknowledge and thank: the entire staff at Mulberry Gardens for 10 wonderful years; Ellen, Miata, and especially Denise at Companions and Homemakers; and the staff of Southington Care and HHC Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care.
All arrangements are private; there are no calling hours. Burial is at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury is assisting with the arrangements.
