          HADDON HEIGHTS, NJ-Elizabeth (Gorman) McGrath, formerly of Waterbury, widow of the late Joseph F. McGrath, died after a lengthy illness on April 27 in Haddon Heights, NJ.

          Born in Derby on July 14, 1927 to James and Margaret Gorman, Elizabeth moved to Waterbury and graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School. During World War II, through the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps, she became a registered nurse.

          Mrs. McGrath later earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in psychology, both from Southern Connecticut State University. She was an inhalation therapist at St. Mary’s Hospital and then a public health nurse for the City of Waterbury.

          Mrs. McGrath was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick Church.

          She leaves five children: Mark McGrath and Marguerite (Bea) Brouillard (both of Waterbury), Judith Guarnieri (Haddon Heights, NJ), Joseph McGrath (Cedar Rapids, IA), and David McGrath (Northampton, MA); 13 grandchildren: Danielle Braun (Simsbury), Katie O’Brien (Belmont, MA), Jill Augelli (Prospect),  Maeve Brouillard (Waterbury), Nicholas Guarnieri (Branchburg, NJ), Martha Guarnieri and Sam Guarnieri (both of Philadelphia), Kellie Frein and Jordan McGrath (Des Moines, IA), Krista Polan (Chicago), Kimberly Bhiro (Cedar Rapids), and Jason McGrath and Spencer McGrath (both of Northampton); and 11 great-grandchildren.

           Mrs. McGrath was pre-deceased by a son Gary; by her sisters Mary Gorman, Rose Hayden, and Marguerite Bergin; and by a brother James.

           Funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street to St. Patrick Church, 50 Charles Street for a Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Old St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
