          WATERBURY – George W. Mackie, Jr., 70, of Waterbury, died Monday, May 27, 2019 at Waterbury Hospital after a long illness.

          George was born in Waterbury September 23, 1948 son of Virginia (Tedesco) Mackie and the late George W. Mackie, Sr.  He graduated from Crosby High School and the University of Connecticut. He was a retired employee of The Siemon Company.

          An amateur photographer he photographed and shared his photos with the Wolcott High Football Team, various Wolcott and Holy Cross girls’ sports teams, and Wolcott special games.

          George wanted it known “I finally exercised my right to buy the farm”

          Besides his mother of Waterbury, he is survived by his siblings, Christina, Russell and Robert Mackie, all of Waterbury, Randal Mackie and his wife Joanna of Morris and William Mackie and his wife Joanne of Wolcott, nieces and nephews, Joseph and his wife Stacy, Kevin, Melissa, Ian and Olivia and grand niece and nephew, William and Autumn.

          The family would like to thank all the healthcare providers who attended George over the past two years. We would also like to thank our special family friends, Shannon and Bela.

          The funeral will be held Saturday, June 1 at 10:30 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. to St. Michael Church, 62 St. Michael Drive for a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Thomaston.  Calling hour is Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
