Helen Rita (Coon) Carroll
BURLINGTON, VT- Helen Rita (Coon) Carroll, 96, passed away quietly on April 16, 2013 at The Starr Farm in Burlington, Vermont with family by her side. She was born on September 7, 1916 in Oakville, Connecticut to Frank J. and Loretta (Tracy) Coon. Helen was educated at local schools in Oakville, CT and was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School.
Helen spent most of her life in Oakville and Waterbury, Connecticut where she worked with Root & Boyd, Blessed Sacrament Church Rectory, and private positions with local churches and charities. While living in Bunker Hill, Helen was a parishioner at Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, where she taught CCD and was a Eucharistic minister. Most recently she was a communicant at St. Michaels Church at St. Michaels College in Vermont. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, volunteering with Easter Seals, Toastmaster’s, and Teaching “elder driving courses”. A lifelong lover of all things provided by nature, she kept a special place in her heart for “furry friends” of almost any type.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Carroll Sr., her parents, Frank J. and Loretta Coon, her sister, Francis C. Brodeur, her beloved son, William C. Carroll Jr. and his daughter Victoria E. Carroll.
Helen is survived by her sons, James F. Carroll Sr. and his wife Patricia (Moore) of Jericho Center, Vermont and Thomas M. Carroll Sr. and his wife Eileen (Readel) of Essex, Vermont; her grandchildren, James F. Carroll Jr., Sean D. Carroll, Colleen C. Moran MD, Shannon Carroll, Briana C. Young, Thomas Carroll Jr., William C. Carroll III and their spouses; her many beautiful great-grandchildren, her nieces Arlene Brodeur Kleason, Kathleen Brodeur and her husband Allan, nephew Stephen S. Sullivan, dear friend Theresa Cicchetti and many loved members of the clergy and other friends and extended family.
Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Loreto Church, 12 Ardsley Road, Waterbury, Connecticut on Saturday April 20th at 10 a.m. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at 9:30 a.m., preceding the Mass. Burial will follow immediately at New Saint Joseph’s Cemetery.
A memorial service in Vermont, her second home, will be held in May at a location to be announced.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to United Cerebral Palsy, 1825 K Street, NW Suite 600 Washington, DC 20006 on behalf of Shannon Carroll.
