John Joseph Grady, Avid Golfer  

          PLANTSVILLE- John Joseph Grady, Jr. 83, passed away on January 13, 2020 at Live Well Skilled Nursing facility in Plantsville, CT after a long illness.

          He was the first-born son of the late Mary Anne (McGowan) Grady and John J. Grady, Sr.

          He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the DMZ Zone in Korea as a tank driver.

          John had a lifetime career at the Southern New England Telephone Company. After his retirement he worked at the law firm of Grady & Riley, LLP as its Chief Maintenance Operator. John belonged to the Waterbury Elks and enjoyed many nights on the bowling and card teams. He was an avid golfer and spent many days at both Waterbury golf courses.  John was a member of the “Top Hatters” who enjoyed many nights singing at area convalescent homes.

          John was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick’s Church, Waterbury and ran the Church Bingo for many years.

          John is survived by his wife, Yvonne Bellmay Grady, his daughter Yvette Grady and her son Patrick Cuddy, his son John and his wife Barbara Grady and their children, Angela and Christopher York, John and Liz Grady, Liza and Adam Daskey and Shaina Grady, and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Francis J. Grady and his wife, Judy, his sisters Mary Anne Carpenter and her husband William, Laura Luce and her husband Marc, and Margaret Frigon and her husband Raymond and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brothers, William, Thomas and Michael Grady.

          The family would like to thank the staff of Live Well, Skilled Nursing Facility, Plantsville, CT for their compassion, dedication, and skillful nursing during his illness.

          A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street in Waterbury. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street is in charge of the arrangements.
