WATERBURY – Louise Ann Houghtaling, 82, of 106 MacArthur Drive, died peacefully Sunday, January 3 at Wolcott View Manor.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband and high school sweetheart, Waterbury Police Officer, Frank N. Houghtaling.

Mrs. Houghtaling was born April 11, 1938 in Waterbury, the only child of the late Stephen and Jessie (Krokosky) Musante and was a lifelong resident of Waterbury.  She was a graduate of Wilby High School, Class of 1957.

Mrs. Houghtaling worked as an administrative assistant for several area manufacturing companies, but her primary vocation was raising and nurturing her four children.  She enjoyed bowling and playing cards with her close group of life-long friends.  She loved driving and would take many impromptu daytrips to nowhere through the scenic backroads of Western Connecticut.  She was well known as the “neighborhood Mom” and her home was the heart of MacArthur Drive – where the door was always unlocked and there was a warm meal, cool drink and hot coffee ready for all, anytime of the day, and where you could usually find a friendly outdoor game of badminton, croquet, or whiffle ball to join in her backyard.

She leaves two sons, Frank S. Houghtaling of Waterbury and Steven M. Houghtaling of Ellington; two daughters, Karen A. Houghtaling of Wolcott and Laurie L. Rodgers of Saraland, AL.  She also leaves four grandchildren; Nicole, Bret, Gavin and Mira, as well as three greatgrandchildren; Alexxis, Brianna and Camryn.

There will be a private service and the family will hold a Memorial Mass later in the year when it is safe to do so.

The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St.is in charge of arrangements.
