A kind-hearted and generous person

         

            WOLCOTT-Mary M. (Halpin) Ignacio, 83, of Wolcott passed away Dec. 18, 2020 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary, wife of the late Ronald Ignacio, was born Oct. 2, 1937.
            Mary, also known as Nana by many, grew up in Waterbury and later moved to Wolcott to raise her family. She worked as a dispatcher for the Wolcott Police Department then moved on to work for the State Police until she retired. She then resided in Hollywood Beach, Fla. until returning back to Wolcott, to be close to family. She could often be spotted on her front porch, waving to those driving by.

            Mary was a devoted Catholic and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She enjoyed spending time with close friends as well as meeting new people. Mary was known as a kind-hearted and generous person, who would always be the first to offer a helping hand. 

            Mary is survived by her sons, Ronald and James of Wolcott, Robert of Hawaii; her daughters, Catherine of Florida, Theresa and her husband Mario Guerrera of Watertown and Donna of Wolcott; her daughter-in-law, Diane Ignacio of Wolcott; her brother, James Halpin of Mass.; her ten grandchildren: Carla, Nina, Marco, Maria and Angela Guerrera, Alyssa and Bill Doolittle, Serena Ignacio, Colleen Helie, Lyndsy and Michael Ignacio; three great-grandchildren: Mia, Logan and Malcolm and also leaves behind nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

            In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by her sons, Thomas and Michael; her parents Thomas and Mary Halpin, and her older brothers, Thomas and Jackie.
            The family would like to thank all of Mary’s doctors, nurses and all healthcare individuals, including Patty Pitts, who supported and cared for her during her illness.        

            Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street in Waterbury. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, 389 Boundline Road in Wolcott.

            The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street is in charge of arrangements.
