Mary (Phalen) Porch

FAIRFAX, VA - Mary (Phalen) Porch, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully at The Virginian on Sunday, June 16, 2019.
Mary was born January 1, 1925, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Fogarty) Phalen Kamp. She was predeceased by her husband, Newell J. Porch. Mary and husband, Newell, lived in Reston, VA for several years and upon his passing, Mary lived the last fourteen years at the Virginian Retirement Home in Fairfax. She enjoyed her time with activities, especially being a member of the Red Hat Ladies Luncheon Club.
Mary was a strong woman. Her faith and prayer were very important to her. She enjoyed being an active matriarch of her family of three children, Dee Mikelskas and her husband Robert, Brian Porch and his wife Norma and Newell Porch and his wife Patricia, seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mary was often visited by various family members to whom she eagerly dispensed sage advice. She was delighted to celebrate her ninetieth birthday with all in attendance. Many loved ones were also present with her in the final days before she passed.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Church, One East Main St, Thomaston where family and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Thomaston. Family and friends may visit at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The Murphy Funeral Home, 15 Willow St., Waterbury is in charge of arrangements.
