Nancy Coan Catherine (Bunnell) Bailey

          WATERBURY- Nancy Coan Catherine (Bunnell) Bailey died December 6, 2018 at Autumn Lake Healthcare.

          She was born in New Haven on September 18, 1934 to George H. and Gertrude (LoVine)Bunnell. She grew up in Bucks Hill and graduated from WCHS in 1952.

          Nancy was a convert to Catholicism after high school, receiving her sacraments at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The Basilica was always her place of peace, and she could be found there several times daily during the 17 years she lived at The Elton.

          She has often been described as a kind, gentle soul with a sweet smile and a giving nature. She especially enjoyed doing art projects with young children. Her favorite things were a good cup of coffee -light and sweet, Bingo, word search puzzles and spending time with family.

          Nancy is survived by her identical twin sister and best friend Suzanne Matthews, her ten children: Marilee Perugini and husband Louis, Joanne Bailey Jones, Debra Bailey, Michael Bailey and wife Diane, Steven Bailey, Karen Bailey Van Tassell and husband Gordon, Patricia Bailey, Beth Bailey-Gray and husband Thomas, Marie Larsen and husband Lance, and Ami (Bailey) Couverthier, 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents and brothers George H. Bunnell and John W. (JB) Bunnell.

          Funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck.            

          In lieu of flowers, donations to a local food pantry are requested.
