          WATERBURY – Nancy (Russell) Hopkins, 89, of Waterbury in her own words “went kicking and screaming to the Lord” on October 10, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

          Nancy and her family would like to thank Dr. Edmund Caporaso for his many years of kindness, compassion and patience.  In addition, they would like to thank the entire staff of O’Brien 7, the CCU and the Vitas Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital for their care and support.

          Nancy was born November 15, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio daughter of the late Lewis & Helen (Maloney) Russell and retired from Westover School in Middlebury after twenty years of employment.  She was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, Ohio State University Football and the UCONN basketball teams.  She was an avid reader, animal lover and enjoyed spending time with her friends.

          Survivors include two daughters, Diane Yarosis of Valrico, FL, Kim Hopkins of Daytona Beach, FL, a son, William J. Hopkins, Jr. and his partner, Marlene Hill of Waterbury, 2 grandsons, Peter and David Yarosis, 3 great granddaughters, Jaylynn, Haileigh and Kyah, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Barbara & Jack Hamel of Wolcott and several nieces and nephews.

          She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Hopkins, Sr., a daughter, Suzanne Hopkins, a grandson, Joseph Hopkins, a son-in-law, Edward Yarosis, a sister, Diane Sweeney and a special friend, Mario “Moe” Izzi.

          The funeral will be held Friday October 18, 2019 at 9:45 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for a Mass at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.  Calling hours are Friday from 8:45 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
