OAKVILLE - Robert J. (Bob) Capaldo, 83, of Oakville CT died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday March 4, 2021.

Bob was born in Waterbury CT on June 30th, 1937 to Bertrand and Anna (Cameron) Capaldo.  He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and went on to study theology at both St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield and St. Bonaventure University in New York in his pursuit of the priesthood. Bob’s ultimate desire to raise a family led him to teach for 10 years at Blessed Sacrament School in Waterbury, where he met and married his beloved wife, Joan. In his later years, he re-dedicated his life in service to the Catholic Church as a Director of Religious Education for the Archdiocese of Hartford, and later as a Eucharistic Minister and church volunteer after his retirement.  He also had a lifelong affiliation with and love for the Boy Scouts of America and Camp Mattatuck in Plymouth.

Bob was a loving husband, an exemplary father, and a doting grandfather. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 52 years, Joan (Stack) Capaldo, son Mark and wife Jeanette Capaldo of Wolcott, daughter Diane (Capaldo) Laires and husband Dan of Naugatuck, sister Mary (Capaldo) Welsh and husband Dave of Waterbury, his beloved granddaughters Gianna Capaldo and Cecilia Laires, as well as his honorary son and daughter Walid and Hassnaa Gad and grandchildren Maryem and Adhem Gad of Waterbury.  Bob was pre-deceased by his brother John (Jack) Cameron of Southington.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice team - particularly Angelica, Alicia, Patrizia, Jaime, and Marie - for their loving, compassionate, and skilled care during Bob’s final days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Bob on Thursday March 11, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 574 Main St. Watertown, CT.  Friends and relatives are asked to meet directly at St. John’s, and may visit with the family outdoors beginning at 9:15 AM prior to the Mass. A Rite of Committal ceremony will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury is assisting with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.   https://www.stjude.org/
