Thomaston - Shirley A. Assif, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning Oct 13, 2019 at Waterbury Hospital. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Joseph M. Assif.

Shirley was born Dec 4, 1935 in Farnborough, Hampshire England, eldest daughter of the late Margaret and Jack Gibson and loving step-father Bill Philip. She leaves her sister Carol, brothers Neil and Steve and was pre-deceased by her sister, Joey.

Shirley and the love of her life, Joseph, met and married during his naval service in Southern England during the Korean War. She entered into the Assif family of 8 sisters, with special love and fondness for Mrs. Evelyn Korlotny and her family. Shirley was beloved by her father and mother in law, the late Shaheen and Azziza Assif. She took on the role of house wife with vigor and adapted easily to the Lebanese culture. She was a wonderful loving and nurturing mother, one of a kind. Shirley was an excellent cook, avid card player, loved shopping and had great decorating skills. Her sense of humor was enjoyed by the many friends she made over the years.

She leaves behind her three sons, Joseph Aesif Jr., and his wife Patricia of Watertown, William Assif and his wife Marguerite of Northfield and Richard Assif of Scottsdale, AZ. Shirley loved caring for her grandchildren Dr. Scott Aesif, Melissa Cope, Michael Aesif, Dr. Nicholas Assif, and James Assif and will leave them with many fond memories of those early years growing up.  She also leaves eight great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful caring staff at Glendale Center of Naugatuck, and to Waterbury Hospital ICU department for their compassionate care.
