Theodora "Teddy" (Hladky) Hamilton




          WATERTOWN-Theodora “Teddy” (Hladky) Hamilton passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at home with her family by her side.  She was the beloved wife for 53 years of James W. Hamilton, III. 
          Teddy was born in Washington, DC on January 29, 1942, daughter of the late Theodore and Clara (Barker) Hladky.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Shannon, of Watertown; her son, James, and his wife, Corryne, of Cheshire; her grandchildren, Quince and Layne, of Cheshire; her brother, Gregory Hladky, and his wife, Lisa, of Windsor; her sister Natalie Champagne, and her husband, Paul, of Yorktown, VA; many close brothers and sisters in law; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Hladky, and brother, Rick Hladky.
          Teddy graduated from Manchester High School and Waterbury School of Nursing, and attended Wills Eye Institute of Philadelphia.  She was one of the first RNs in the Waterbury Hospital ICU when it opened in 1963.  Teddy took a leave from her nursing career to raise her two children and returned to her nursing passion in the field of eye surgery, where she was a surgical nurse for Opticare of Waterbury for 15 years. 
           Teddy was active in many pursuits.  She was a fabulous cook and hostess, renowned for hosting a multitude of family and holiday events over many years.  She loved to travel, especially enjoying over 20 years of annual visits to Aruba.  She visited each of the Caribbean islands and traveled throughout Europe.  Teddy’s greatest and fondest love was for her two grandchildren who will deeply cherish their memories made with her. She was a former member of the Middlebury Garden Club, former president of Crestbrook Women’s Golf League, original member of the Waterbury Ladies’ Elks Bowling and Setback Leagues, a Girl Scout troop leader, and a faithful parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church.  She was the former partner-owner of Westbury Antiques.  In more recent years, she enjoyed playing Mahjong with her dear friends in Middlebury.
           A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins Street. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
