Loving Wife, Sister and Aunt


            WOLCOTT – Vera (Bianco) Massaro, 94, of Wolcott, passed from this life surrounded by her family on September 26, 2021.  She was predeceased by her husband Rocco Massaro.

            Vera was born in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Anna (Manfredi) Bianco and John Bianco on January 29, 1927.  She is also predeceased by her sister, Rae Bianco, cousin Connie Iacovone and brother-in-law, Joseph Begnal.

            Survivors include her brother, Louie Bianco and his wife Marie and her sister, Ann Begnal.

            Vera attended local schools, Walsh Grammar School and Wilby High School.  She entered the workforce as a factory worker during World War II.  She worked at Benrus in Waterbury and Ridgefield.  Later she worked at Gould Manufacturing in Southington.  She was a parishioner at St. Michael Church in Waterbury where she was very involved in parish activities.

            In addition to her brother and sister she leaves her nieces and nephews who she was affectionately known as Vi-Vi, Anne Marie Cullinan and her husband Ned, Patti Russell and her husband Kevin, Cindy Jackson and her husband Robert, Joe Begnal and his wife Terry, Luanne Salcito and her husband Joe, Judy McGuire, Gina Porter, grand nieces and nephews; Chris, Courtney, Joe, Ryan, Andrew, Jennifer, Jillian, Breanna, Joey, Arianne, Andrew, Jessica, Juli, Kelsey, and Jacob, and great grand nieces and nephews; Sara, Jack, Bradan, Eloise, Maelie, Isla, Leyton, Talia and Teagan Lyn.

            She was devoted to her nieces and nephews and attended all of their games, social events, birthdays and weddings.  She enjoyed travelling with the Gadabouts and weekly lunch dates with friends.

            Her family would like to thank her neighbors, the Brooks who provided support and friendship for many years. Also, a special thank you to her cousin Rosemary Delano who provided comfort and care to her during her final weeks.  Her family would also like to thank Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice and Aging Better at Home.

            The funeral will be Wednesday September 29, 2021 at 9:15 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury to St. Michael Church, 62 St. Michael Drive for a Mass at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will be in MT Olivet Cemetery, Watertown.  Calling hour is Wednesday from 8:15 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Those attending are requested to wear face coverings in the funeral home.
