Kind, loving and devoted brother, uncle and step-father


            WATERBURY- William H. Finnegan, 73, of Waterbury passed away Thursday December 16, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness.

            Bill was born in Waterbury April 26, 1948 son of the late William & Mary (Fram) Finnegan and graduated from Crosby High School and Central Connecticut State University.  He was employed as an engineer for many years at Scovill Manufacturing Company and retired from New Opportunities in Waterbury.

            He was a longtime member of the Avigilanese Club and the Waterbury Lodge of Elks, where he had many friends and enjoyed playing cards.

            Bill was a kind, loving and devoted brother, uncle and step-father who was always there for anyone who needed anything.  On many occasions he opened his door to family members who needed a place to live.  He will be remembered for his gift of storytelling, watching old time westerns on TV and his nightly routine of watching Jeopardy and discussing the final answer with his sisters.

             Survivors include his two sisters, Kathy Matthews and Patricia Ksiazkowski, both of Berlin, his nieces, Linda Spooner and her husband Keith, Susan Giglio and her husband John, Lorraine Nuerakis, Sharon Mendillo and her husband John, Maureen Keeley and her husband James, Hope Petrarca and her husband Brian and Julie Fernandes and her husband Raul, his step-children, Pamela Kelly, Patrick Kelly and Shawn Kelley and his wife Gail and several grandnieces and grandnephews and step-grandchildren.

            In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Maureen Nuerakis.

            His family would like to give his beloved caregiver, Dorothy Knight special thanks.

            The Funeral will be held Saturday December 18, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. to Mary, Mother of the Church Parish – SS. Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road, Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.  Calling hour is Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
