William J. Bochicchio, Sr.
Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather & Great Grandfather
WATERBURY – William J. Bochicchio, Sr. 87, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019 peacefully at his home surrounded by the love and comforting care of his children and family.
Bill was born in Waterbury, on February 17, 1931 to the late James and Angeline (Accetura) Bochicchio.
He was a graduate of the Crosby High School Class of 1949. During his junior year he enlisted in the Navy Reserves, and proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War aboard the aircraft carrier, The Tripoli.
He met his wife, Jean M. Tartaglia at a Wilby/Crosby High School football game in 1948 and it was love at first sight. They married in 1951 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Waterbury.
Bill had a long career at Anaconda American Brass Company (Anamet Inc.) and was recognized at his retirement, after 42 years of employment. He was very active in his community and St. Margaret’s parish cultivating many friendships and lending support. He was a member of the Anaconda Employees Association and Golf League, and served as a Board Member of the Italian American Civic Club of Waterbury. He was also a member of American Legion, and the Elks Club in Bradenton, FL.
He was an avid golfer, bowler, and a talented artist. He loved his calligraphy class at the Prospect Senior Center and playing Wii with his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with his loving wife and going to Florida for the winter months, and spent many summers camping with family and friends. Bill found life to be “wonderful”, and most of all, he loved his very large family and made them the center of his life.
Besides his wife Jean of 67 years, William is survived by his seven children, Linda Egan and her husband Gerard of Bristol, Joby Veillette and her husband Andre of Sparks, NV, Cathy Bochicchio of Prospect, James Bochicchio and his wife Judy (Guglielmo) of Waterbury, William J. Bochicchio, Jr. and his wife Beth (Messina) of Northfield, Richard Bochicchio and his wife Kayrnne (Bartkus) of Glastonbury, and Joseph Bochicchio and his wife Allison (Townsend) of Bristol.
In addition, he also leaves 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends.
The family would like to recognize and thank Masonicare Home Health & Hospice and Wolcott View Manor Health & Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care and support they provided Bill and his family. Their compassion and kindness will never be forgotten.
The Funeral Mass will be held Thursday January 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins St. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Entombment will follow in Calvary Garden Mausoleum with US Navy Honors. Calling hours are Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St.
