Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother


          WATERBURY- Yolanda A. Genovese, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Glendale Center in Naugatuck. She was the wife of the late Leonard F. Genovese, Sr.      

          Mrs. Genovese was born on October 17, 1926 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Angelo and Alessandrina (Marsella) Guarino.

          She was a former resident of Eastgate Apartments in Waterbury where she enjoyed participating in all the activities there with her neighbors. While she was living at Glendale she looked forward to lunch and dinner with her three special friends – Flo, Noella and Barb, along with the recreational programs offered.

          After becoming a widow at a young age, Yolanda truly enjoyed being involved with all her children and grandchildren’s activities, especially her trips to downtown Waterbury on the Hill Street Bus with her grandchildren for shopping and going to lunch.

          Mrs. Genovese was a homemaker and a former communicant of St. Thomas Church where she was a member of the choir and also a member of St. Michael Church.

          She was a kind and gentle soul and a wonderful mother and grandmother, affectionately known as Grammy.

          Yolanda is survived by her 6 children, Sandra Qerim and her husband David of Cheshire, Leonard F. Genovese, Jr. of Southbury, Richard Genovese and his wife Elaine of North Salem, NY, Linda Bennett of Harwinton, Steven Genovese of Waterbury, Rhonda Petruzzi and her husband Peter of Woodbury, 16 grandchildren ,14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her lifelong friend, June Ieronimo.

          She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Colleen (Shea) Genovese, her sisters, Mary (Bellmore) Laurelli, Dora Berger and her brothers, John, Raymond, Anthony “Sheik” and “Bucky” Guarino.

          The Genovese family would like to thank the staff at Glendale Center for the compassion and care they provided to Yolanda.

          All Services are private and at the convenience of the family. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street in Waterbury is in charge of the arrangements.
