          WATERBURY- George A. Koenemund, Sr., 80, of Waterbury died Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Cheryl (Graveline) Koenemund. They had been married for 41 years.

          George was born July 3, 1939 in Jamaica, New York son of the late Albert P. and Doris (Winans) Koenemund. In the 1950’s his family moved to Winsted, CT and he graduated from The Gilbert School in Winsted.

          After graduating from high school George enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Bainbridge, MD and Long Beach, CA where he served on the USS Frank E. Evans (DD-754).

          George formerly had worked at Pratt & Whitney and then owned a service station, Meriden Road Amoco. He then worked as a mechanic at several auto dealerships in Waterbury.

          George enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

          Besides his wife Cheryl, George is survived by his daughter, Ann Koenemund-Downs and her husband Michael of TN, his brother, Robert Koenemund and his wife Barbara of Wolcott, 6 grandchildren, Monica Koenemund and her husband Rick, Noel Cromb, Jr. and his husband Joseph, Brandon Cromb and his husband Quincy, Heaven Mucci, Vincent Mucci, Jr. and his wife Gabriela, Autumn Mucci and her husband Nicholas, 6 great grandchildren, Cameron Lafo, Emily Rivera, Brody and Maxxon Lewis and Amelia and Evan LeBlanc. Also, his nephew, Robert Koenemund and Connie and his niece, Melissa Pepitone and her husband Vincent.

          George was predeceased by his son, George A. Koenemund, Jr.

          Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 12 noon at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
